Da Nang’s Son Tra lighthouse is one of the 8 most ancient lighthouses in Viet Nam. The others are Bay Canh lighthouse in Con Dao Island, Hon Lon in Nha Trang City, Long Chau and Hon Dau in Hai Phong City, Nui Nai in Kien Giang Province, Hon Khoai in Ca Mau Province, and Mui Dinh in Ninh Thuan Province.
Lying dormant on the Son Tra Peninsula, the site is considered as one of the best places for visitors to admire panoramic views of the city from above.
Our freelancers Phuoc Danh and Kha Thinh captured the beauty of this site in amazing photos.
The Son Tra lighthouse, also known as Tien Sa lighthouse, is located on the peak of the Hon Son Tra Island. It is around 223 meters above sea level, and considered as one of the most beautiful lighthouses in the country. The lighthouse was built in the 1950s by the French during their short-lived occupancy of Son Tra. |
The 15.6m-high and 2.7m-wide lighthouse has a geographical visibility of 14 nautical miles. |
The purpose of the lighthouse is to help fishing boats operating on the Thua Thien Hue-Da Nang waters identify their position, warn them of danger, and guide them safely on their way. |
The lighthouse enables visitors to enjoy beautiful panoramic views of sea, mountain and forest from above. |
The lighthouse is under the management of the Central Regional Maritime Safety Guaranty Company |
The ancient lighthouse is really an inviting destination for visitors as they make a short trip to the Son Tra Peninsula. |
