Floating water season in Southwestern region occurs when the water level is on the rise and the rivers and canals expand. It often takes place from the 7th to the 10th lunar months.

The annual floodwaters of the Mekong River carry nutrient-rich alluvium to farmland, and provide a bounty of fish, shrimp and other aquatic species. It also marks the start of a special tourist season in the region.

The rice paddy fields in the region are now busy with boats which are used by the locals as major means of transport and means to catch fish.

Let’s look at some amazing photos taken by local photographer Huynh Nam Dong during his recent trip to this inviting place, showing how beautiful Southwestern region in floating water season is.
