Some amazing works built in the city since its liberation

This year marks 44 years since the liberation of Da Nang. In addition to its numerous significant socio-economic achievements and its inviting popular attractions, the seaside city boasts many amazing monuments and garden statues which have been built over the past 4 decades.

Let’s have a look at some of the city’s remarkable works through stunning photos captured by our reporter Xuan Son.

Opened in November 2017, a park alongside the western bank of the Han River in Da Nang, featuring the symbols of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) member economies, has emerged as a wonderful cultural landmark in the heart of the city.

The sculpture named “Dat lanh chim dau” (Birds nest on good land) is sited at the roundabout of Bach Dang, 3 February and Nhu Nguyet streets in the city. Created by the city-born sculptor Pham Van Hang, the work features the images of pigeons playing in a nest, which represents this young, dynamic and liveable city.

The ‘Me Au Co’ (Mother Au Co) Statue is one of the highlights of the East Sea Park. Carved by the famous Vietnamese painter and sculptor Le Cong Thanh, this art work was placed in 2007.

Situated on Dien Bien Phu Street, the majestic Thanh Khe Valiant Mother Monument aims to honour Vietnamese Heroic Mother Nhu for her significant dedication to the nation’s independence and freedom. Created by sculptor Pham Van Hang for only 6 months, the 12m-high statue of Mother Nhu was made from 7,000 bullet shells in total. It was inaugurated in 1985 to mark the 10th anniversary of the liberation of Da Nang (29 March 1975).

A majestic statue of General Nguyen Tri Phuong is placed in the Dien Hai Citadel to commemorate the city’s glorious history during the struggle against the attacks by the French invaders in the 1858 - 1860 period.
