General views of Mui Trau twin tunnels on La Son-Tuy Loan expressway

The main work items of the La Son-Tuy Loan expressway are nearing completion, and notable amongst them are the Mui Trau (Buffalo’s Nose) twin tunnels worth nearly 1,500 billion VND in total.

Developed on the build-transfer (BT) basis, stretching a total of 77.6 km, the La Son-Tuy Loan route is being built at a total cost of over 11 trillion VND. |

As part of the 3,183 km-long Ho Chi Minh Highway, which runs through a total of 28 Vietnamese localities, the route begins in La Son Town, Phu Loc District, Thua Thien-Hue Province, and ends at the intersection with the Da Nang-Quang Ngai Expressway in Da Nang’s Tuy Loan Village. |

As part of the route, the The Mui Trau twin tunnels are located in Hoa Bac Commune, Hoa Vang District. It can be seen that the anti-erosion taluses on the both sides of the tunnels’ entrances are nearing completion. |

Constructed by the Ha Noi-headquartered Song Da 10 Joint Stock Company, Mui Trau is now one of the most modern road tunnels in Viet Nam. The twin tunnels’ entrances are pictured head towards Da Nang. |

One of the tunnels in the south – north direction measures 1,320m in length, whilst the other in the opposite direction is 1,300m long. |

The 2 tunnels connect with each other via 3 open paths. |

Each tunnel is 10.8m wide and 7.2m high, consisting of 2 lanes. |

The installation of electric, lighting, ventilation, fire protection and intelligent traffic control systems is progressing well in a quick fashion. |

Up to now, such main work items La Son-Tuy Loan expressway as foundations, pavements and drainage systems have basically been completed. However, some auxiliary items, including frontage roads and ditches along the route, have yet to be constructed due to site clearance-related problems. |

The management broad of the Ho Chi Minh Highway is working closely with the local authorities to accelerate the clearance and compensation work, thereby ensuring the on-schedule implementation of the La Son- Tuy Loan expressway as per request by the Ministry of Transport. |
