High surf and heavy storm Molave’s surges left a large amount of trash washing up on beaches in their wake, hereby blighting the city’s urban landscape. In a rush, an environmental cleanup drive with the involvement of crews and residents, therefore, has taken in a bid to help the beaches retain their original charm as soon as possible.

Captured on Sunday morning, a large amount of waste, including branches, firewood, and used plastic items piled up on beaches stretching along the Vo Nguyen Giap - Hoang Sa - Truong Sa coastal route.

In total, about 150 local sanitation workers and nearly 4,000 Youth Union members across Da Nang on Sunday morning together went out to the beaches to clean up trash left along Vo Nguyen Giap, Hoang Sa and Nguyen Tat Thanh streets. 

“A lot of the trash gets stuck in the dunes. Trash from here, there and everywhere has been churned up, making its way to shore. That’s why clean up crews are working overtime to remove hundreds of kilogrammes of waste”, said a worker.

Also, sea waves continuously hit embankments, making the beaches at risk of potential coastal erosions. Due to sea level rise, the roots of coconut trees have been exposed due to sand erosion.
