Large crowds flocked to major downtown streets across Da Nang on Thursday night to celebrate the arrival of the Lunar New Year.
Following recent decisions by Da Nang government, Lunar New Year's Eve fireworks displays, plus many annual cultural and entertainment activities, were cancelled in the city in a bid to limit crowds over fears of coronavirus infections. Therefore, the majority of Da Nang people poured into the Bach Dang Spring Flower Street, or coffee shops, in order to welcome in a lunar new year with their family members and friends.
Mr Le Hung Dung, residing in Son Tra District's An Hai Bac Ward, said, in previous years, his family members together enjoyed the comedic show on TV called 'Gap nhau cuoi nam' (Year-end get-together), also commonly known as 'Tao Quan' (Kitchen Gods), and then watched magnificent fireworks displays on Lunar New Year's Eve to celebrate the arrival of the Tet Festival.
"This year, due to the cancellation of Lunar New Year's Eve fireworks displays, I decided to take my two children to the Bach Dang Flower Street for shooting, then returning home to welcome in the Lunar New Year 2021" Dung added.
Likewise, Ms Le Thao Chuyen, a women hailing from the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai, said she decided to stay in Da Nang instead of going home for Tet due to the complicated developments of Covid-19 in her hometown. She hoped that the pandemic would be controlled and successfully contained as soon as possible in order for her to return to her hometown soon.
Let's take a look at amazing photos, captured by our reporter Xuan Son, depicting how Da Nang people welcome in the Lunar New Year 2021 in a bustling and jubilant ambiance.
