Da Nang police today, August 16, threw up road blocks and more checkpoints were set up across the city to ensure local residents stay at home, on the first day of stricter curbs on movement to limit the spread of COVID-19.
The first day of tougher COVID-19 curbs in Da Nang saw empty inner-city and quiet streets.
Da Nang will be under tighter COVID-19 restrictions for 7 days to battle the highly infectious Delta coronavirus variant, starting at 8am on August 16 with all the movement and activities banned. Strict stay- at- home orders are being applied across the city, requiring everyone to remain at home with exceptions for essential purposes.
The spread of COVID-19 in Da Nang prompted drastic measures for transmission containment.
We observed before 8am on Monday that some streets still saw a few of road users but they were required by the taskforce at checkpoints to go back to their homes ahead of new restrictions officially being come into force.

Mobile vehicles were used by ward-level authorities to require people to obey strict stay-at-home orders.
Some streets in the city were empty on Monday morning as Da Nang people began to socially isolate themselves under the direction of the municipal government. Some mini supermarkets, food stores, and pharmacies are allowed to remain open but the adoption of the stay-at-work solution.
Barriers and checkpoints were erected in residential areas and alleys, and the guards were deployed to these venues to tighten checks on residents and not allow them to leave their places of residence, with exceptions for getting COVID-19 tests and medical reasons.
