Acts of kindness and compassion towards the needy in Da Nang amid COVID-19
On Saturday morning, the Da Nang Labour Culture House worked with the municipal Professional Social Work Group and sponsors,to organise the programme ‘The delivery of zero- VND Gifts - Love connection’ for the disadvantaged in some areas.

Director of the municipal Labour Culture House Nguyen Thi Tuyet Nhung said her agency has mobilised donors and benefactors to join this highly meaningful programme with the aim of supporting necessities for lottery ticket sellers, single elderly and poor residents and disadvantaged workers living in rental hostels and self-managed groups in industrial zones.
Ms. Truong Thi Nhu Hoa, the Head of the municipal Professional Social Work Group, said that, under the first phase which started on Saturday, with the sponsorship of Agribank's representative office in Central Viet Nam, 500 gifts worth VND100 million in total are being offered to the needy in Cam Le, Thanh Khe, Lien Chieu and Son Tra districts.
Each gift comprises rice, salt, fish sauce, cooking oil, dried fish, vegetables, tubers and fruits.
These gifts are taken by a team of volunteer trucks to areas where there is a desperate need for support.
The process of transportation and distribution completely comply with regulations on pandemic prevention and control, particularly in sealed-off residential areas in Tho Quang Ward in Son Tra District.
In residential groups No 20 and 13, especially the poor are being supported with an additional 5 kg of rice and 1 box of instant noodles each.
Mr Dang Hung, 70 now, in residential group No. 6, Hoa Tho Tay Ward, Cam Le District have faced many financial challenges in life. He used to work as a fisherman making catches on the Cam Le River but now he has to stay at home due to the pandemic whilst his wife suffers physical weakness.
He could not hide his joy with the gift held in his hand: "Thanks to the food gifts, my family is less worried in the coming days”.
The programme will last until the end of August 15, then suspend to comply with the municipal administration’s adopted stay-at-home order which will start on August 16. Afterwards, the programme will resume its operation.

Driver Tran Ngoc Quang from Hoa Tien Commune, Hoa Vang District is a member of the programme’s volunteers. He took a break from his job as an electrician for more than a month and became a “shipper” supporting emergency services and transporting necessities to those in need. |
