Officers and soldiers from the Fire Prevention, Fighting and Rescue Police Division under the Da Nang Police Department, on Wednesday, held a rehearsal on fire prevention and fighting at a COVID-19 treatment site.

This is a mock location in the drill with functional areas similar to COVID-19 isolation and treatment points.

In a hypothetical situation, the 3^rd floor of the COVID-19 patient treatment site located at 183 Phan Dang Luu, Khue Trung Ward, Cam Le District, caught fire as a result of electrical short circuit. The unexpected blaze quickly broke out, unleashing a lot of smoke and toxic gas. When detecting the black smoke, the treatment site’s staff quickly pressed the alarm and called the fire fighting & rescue police force via phone number 114. Upon the reception of the SOS message, dozens of fire fighters and engines quickly arrived at the scene. Thanks to the great efforts of the firefighters, the blaze was completely extinguished.

According to Senior Colonel Nguyen Thanh Nam, Head of the Fire Prevention, Fighting and Rescue Police Division, over the past time, there have been a number of fire incidents happening inside COVID-19 isolation and treatment areas around the world, causing casualties and property damage.

Leaders of the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security have directed municipal and provincial police departments nationwide to ensure fire safety at COVID-19 treatment sites and field hospitals.

Under this a special situation, in addition to the safety of officers and soldiers during the fire fighting process, there is also a very high risk of COVID-19 infection. Through the above-mentioned drill, functional forces gained professional experiences and skills whilst being on duty at these sites with high exposure to the coronavirus.

The participating officers and soldiers were fully equipped with necessary protective equipment and anti-gas masks to protect themselves from smoke inhalation and damage.

Firefighters rushed to the scene for fire extinguishment missions.

The fire fighting drive was in pogress.

The rescue of about 20 victims who were still trapped in the blaze was underway in a prompt fashion.

The rescue team urgently moved the victim by stretcher to the first aid point.

The rescue force immediately provided respiratory support for a victim who had been saved from the fire before.

The staff on duty, the patients and the ambulance were carefully disinfected before embarking upon the trip to safety.

Thanks to the timely deployment by functional forces, 20 trapped victims were safely rescued and rushed to safety.

After extinguishing the fire and completing the rescue work, the task forces were completely disinfected, took off the protective clothing and returned back to the fire trucks.
