Following recent instructions from the Da Nang government on supporting for people on their way home from the Southern localities to go through the Hai Van Tunnel 2, the Ho Chi Minh City-headquartered Deo Ca Investment JSC (DII) on Wednesday evening, October 6, opened the tunnel to traffic in a bid to facilitate the returnees to pass through safely.

Last night, a COVID-19 checkpoint at the two-lane Hai Van Tunnel 2 connecting Thua Thien-Hue Province with Da Nang saw around 1,000 migrant workers travelling back to their northern hometowns from COVID-19 battered localities in Southern Viet Nam on motorbikes.

To ensure COVID-19 prevention and control, traffic police in Da Nang were deployed to lead a group of returnees travel through the tunnel towards Thua Thien Hue Province.

A spokesperson for the Deo Ca Investment JSC said his unit coordinated with Da Nang’s transport police to arrange guide vehicles to lead the way for the returnees, making it convenient for returnees on their way back home during severe weather due to the influence of on-going tropical depression.

During that time, the travelling of vehicles through the tunnel was temporarily suspended to facilitate the returnees pass through the tunnel safely.
