From very early in the morning, 70 sanitation workers from the Song Bien Environment Factory began to clean up trash on the beaches. Massive trash heaps, estimated at hundreds of tonnes, have washed up on some Da Nang beaches after recent heavy rains and floods.
53-year-old Mai Thi Ngang who has 18 years of experience in the sanitation work said "Every rainy season, the amount of garbage dumped on the beach is immeasurable, especially after torrential rains and severe flooding. We have to work all day without rest".
She added she and her co-workers have to work from dawn to dusk. At noon, they just take a rest for a while on the spot to eat a boxed lunch and then go back to work.
“Currently, garbage is mainly found along Nguyen Tat Thanh and Man Thai beaches. When it rains, we are still persistent with our work to keep up with the schedule” underlined Mrs. Ngang.
Mr. Le Van Vu, also from the Song Bien Environment Factory, said a large part of the garbage was large and small dry wood branches, plastic bags, and duckweed. Currently, he and his coworkers continue cleaning up the beaches in the coming days due to a large amount of garbage there.
