Functional agencies in Da Nang have deployed low water storage for the Nam My Dam in Hoa Bac Commune, Hoa Vang District. The purpose is to create a lake bed and operate a pumping station in order to transport raw water to the Hoa Lien Water Plant, about 10km far away from the dam.

The tank receives raw water from the pumping station downstream of the Nam My weir to the Hoa Lien Water Plant.

The Hoa Lien Water Plant project was approved by the municipal government in August 2019 with a total investment of VND1,170 billion.

The project features some main items, including the construction of a spillway to collect water on the Cu De River in order to exploit raw water with the capacity of 120,000m3/day in the first stage, and a raw water pumping station with a capacity of 120,000m3/day in the first stage.

Also, 1.4m- diameter raw water transmission pipelines with the operating capacity of 120,000m3/day in the first stage and 240,000m3/day in the second stage were installed.

A water treatment plant with a capacity of 120,000m3/day in phase 1 and 240,000m3/day were built.

Work started on the project on March 25, 2020 and completed on September 30, 2022.

Such items of weirs, raw water pumping stations, raw water pipelines, and water treatment plant have been operated and tested to ensure the capacity in accordance with the design requirements.

The quality of clean water after treatment that has been tested by the Quality Assurance and Testing Centre 2 (QUATEST 2) meets the clean water standards for domestic use as prescribed in the National Technical Regulations on Water Quality. Quality of clean water used for domestic purposes QCVN 01-1:2018/BYT issued by the Ministry of Health.

Currently, the highest water supply capacity for the whole city is about 330,000 m3/day provided by the Da Nang Water Supply JSC, which is mainly exploited from Cam Le River, Luong Stream, Da Stream, and Hoa Trung and Green lakes.

The Da Nang government and relevant local agencies are urgently completing the remaining procedures to put the Hoa Lien Water Plant with a design capacity of 120,000m3/day in the first stage into operation. The purpose is to provide additional water for the city, especially when the demand for water increases, the Cam Le River is affected by the intrusion of saline water, and the water level on the Yen River, streams and lakes are reduced in the upcoming dry season.

According to Mr. Luong Thach Vy, the Deputy Director of the Da Nang Management Board of Industrial and Civil Engineering Construction and Investment Projects, the first stage of the Hoa Lien Water Plant project with a capacity of 120,000m3/day will provide additional clean water for Da Nang, especially for the districts of Lien Chieu, Thanh Khe, Hai Chau, Son Tra and Hoa Vang, thereby contributing to ensuring adequate water supply for residents' daily lives, agriculture and industrial production in the city.
