Nai Hien Dong Ward’s traditional boat race took place on the iconic Han River of Da Nang on Wednesday, attracting many participating teams and the enthusiastic cheering of locals and tourists.

The traditional boat race saw the participation of 10 teams from Da Nang and Quang Nam Province

As part of a series of cultural activities and festivals along both sides of the Han River in 2023, the traditional boat race aimed to mark the 48^th anniversary of the Liberation Day of Da Nang.

“I love watching boat race. I think the event provides a healthy playground for fishermen and a good opportunity for us to cheer and encourage fishermen to reach out to sea. This also contributes to preserving and promoting the unique traditional cultural values of the marine profession” said Mr. Le Bao Nam, hailing from Quang Nam Province excitedly said.

The event consisted of a 7,000m friendly race and a 10,000m official race. After the thrilling competitions, the first prize went to the Bai Boi - Duy Vinh team from Duy Xuyen District, Quang Nam Province. Meanwhile, the second and third prizes were given out to the Hong Son team from Duy Nghia, Duy Xuyen, Quang Nam Province, and the Nai Hien Dong team from Son Tra District, Da Nang.

The boat race associated with the ‘Cau Ngu’ Festival aims to honour the Gods of the Sea and the Whale, as well as pray for a successful fishing season ahead.

The traditional boat race in Nai Hien Dong Ward has become a unique cultural and tourism product that draws much attention from both locals and tourists.
