Located at the foot of the Marble Mountains in Hoa Hai Ward, Ngu Hanh Son District, Da Nang, the Non Nuoc Stone Carving Village has a proud history covering hundreds of years. The venue is increasingly becoming an attractive tourist destination for both domestic and international tourists.

During our visit to the Non Nuoc Stone Carving Village in early April, we felt a busy working atmosphere there.

Mr. Le Duy, a skilled artisan, said that all products here are made by hand, going through many stages, so they are very meticulous and popular with tourists. “The job of stone carving has helped me cover my family's daily expenses" he said.

"I really like the village’s stone sculptures because of their sophistication and beauty" Ms. Le Thuy Hang, a tourist from Ha Noi, said.

The village’s stone products are very diverse, from everyday items such as mortars, cups, pestles and teapots, to statues of Buddha, Avalokitesvara, Venus, business enterprises, sphinx and eagles. These products are provided for domestic tourists and souvenir establishments, but also exported to many foreign countries.

In 2014, the Non Nuoc Stone Carving Village was recognised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as a national intangible cultural heritage. The materials used by the artisans are very diverse such as limestone, marble, sandstone with many beautiful colours and unique veins.

There are many families with 4-5 generations working in stone processing in the Non Nuoc Stone Carving Village such as the families of artisans Le Ben, Nguyen Hung, Nguyen Minh and Nguyen Long Buu.

Currently, the handicraft village associated with the Marble Mountains Tourist Area attracts thousands of tourists to visit and admire the unique sculptures made by the talented hands of artisans.
