Over 20 troupes from cities and provinces in Viet Nam are competing in the Hai Chau - Da Nang Lion and Dragon Dance Festival 2024 at the semicircle site of Nhu Nguyet Street from August 9 - 11. These localities are Da Nang, Thua Thien Hue, Quang Nam, Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa, Kon Tum, Lam Dong, Phan Thiet, An Giang, Dong Thap, Dong Nai, Binh Duong and Ho Chi Minh City.

The 2nd edition of the festival was co-organised by the Hai Chau District People’s Committee and the Da Nang Radio and Television Station (DRT).
The lion and dragon troupes join the category of “Dia Buu” which means that lion drinks wine and gets drunk, and the category of “Mai Hoa Thung” (Climb a Moutain) where performers must jump from the lowest iron pole, around one metre high, to the highest one of at least 1.7 metres. There are 10 poles 1-3 metres apart.

The organising board will award first, second, third and consolation prizes to outstanding teams. The total prize of the festival is more than VND170 million.
In particular, in the “Dia Buu” category, the first prize of VND15 million (cup, flag and cash prize); the second prize of VND10 million; the third prize of 8 million VND; and the consolation prize of VND 5 million will be given to outstanding troupes.
In the “Mai Hoa Thung” category, the outstanding teams will be awarded the first prize of VND30 million VND; the second prize of VND 25 million; the third prize of VND 20 million; and the consolation prize of VND10 million.
