The National Youth Sailing and Stand-up Paddleboard (SUP) Championships 2024 have recently opened at Da Nang’s Nguyen Tat Thanh Beach.

This year's tournaments attracted nearly 100 athletes in both disciplines from Ho Chi Minh City, Thai Nguyen, Quang Nam and Da Nang.

This is the 4^th time Da Nang has hosted the tournaments. Co-organised by the Viet Nam Canoeing, Rowing and Sailing Federation, and the municipal Department of Culture and Sports, the tournaments have attracted nearly 100 athletes in both disciplines from Ho Chi Minh City, Thai Nguyen, Quang Nam and Da Nang.

In sailing, athletes have competed in 10 events in the types of boats Optimist, Laser, 470.

For SUP, athletes have competed in age groups: from 10 - 13 years old, from 14 - 17 years old, from 18 - 21 years old, from 18 - 30 years old, and from 31 years old and above, and open groups in distances of 200m, 800m, 1,500m and 6,000m.

According to Director of the Da Nang Sports and Physical Training Centre Tran Cong Tu, recent years have witnessed the strong development of the marine sports movement in the city. Every day, a large number of people and tourists gather at local beaches to play sports.

Regularly hosting sailing and stand-up paddleboard races creates an exciting and attractive sports competition atmosphere, and at the same time, contributes to promoting the development of marine sports in the city.

In sailing discipline, athletes competed in 10 events with Optimist, Laser and 470 boats.

The tournament aimed to promote the development of the sailing training movement nationwide, and create opportunities for youth sailors nationwide in general and national youth team in particular to compete. This, thereby, helps to check and evaluate training levels, and to select the most promising athletes for the national sailing team to compete in international championships in 2024 and the following years.
