The 2024 Da Nang Open Traditional Boat Race for the VTV8 Cup took place on the Han River on Sunday morning.

Co-organised by the Da Nang Department of Culture and Sports and the Viet Nam Television Centre in the Central Viet Nam and Highlands Regions (VTV8), the event aimed to celebrate the 79th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (1945-2024).
It also continued to respond to the movement "All people do exercises following the great example of Uncle Ho” and encourage people in coastal areas to enthusiastically participate in boat racing to improve their health and serve production labor and fishing.
The boat race had the participation of 524 male and female athletes from 24 teams of 15 units, namely Hai Chau, Thanh Khe, Son Tra, Ngu Hanh Son, Cam Le, Lien Chieu and Hoa Vang districts in Da Nang; plus teams from Quang Nam Province such as Dien An-Dien Ban, Nam Phuoc Town, Nam Phuoc Youth, Thi Thai-Duy Thanh, Dong Hai-Cam Thanh, Bai Boi-Duy Vinh, An Trung-Duy Thanh, and Tra Dong-Duy Vinh.
There were 17 and 15 members in each boat competing in the men’s and women’s categories respectively. The male teams were required to complete 5 laps, equivalent to 7.5km, whilst the ladies’ teams had to complete just 3 laps, equivalent to 4.5km. Each unit was allowed to send a maximum of two male teams and two female teams for the tournament.
In the end, in the male category, Team Trung Luong from Da Nang’s Cam Le District won the first prize, with Da Nang’s Hai Chau District second and Dong Hai-Cam Thanh in Quang Nam Province third.
As for the female teams, Team Da Nang’s Hai Chau District took first place, whilst Team Dong Hai-Cam Thanh from Quang Nam Province came second and Team Tra Dong-Duy Vinh from Quang Nam Province finished third.
In addition, two consolation prizes were given to An Trung-Duy Thanh men's team and Thanh Khe women's team. There were two Fair-play Award and the Best Fan Award to the teams.
