As per the national fishing port system plan for 2021-2030, with a vision extending to 2050, Tho Quang is set to become one of five key fishing centres in Viet Nam, besides other major hubs in Hai Phong City, Khanh Hoa Province, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, and Kien Giang Province.

Once completed, the project will significantly increase the port's capacity and efficiency, meeting higher fishing port standards, supporting fishing logistic services, and serving as a regional storm shelter.

The upgraded port is anticipated to accommodate up to 300 vessels per day and handle 100,000 tonnes of goods annually.

The Tho Quang Fishing Port and Wharf is both an anchorage area for fishing boats in the Central region and a place to collect and export seafood caught from the sea as well as to bring it to consumption in Da Nang and neighbouring localities.

The project on upgrading and expanding the Tho Quang Fishing Port consists of 2 packages. Package No.10 features the construction of wharf items Nos.1 and 2, the repair of the southeast embankment of the wharf, the renovation of the seafood trading area, and the upgrade of internal traffic routes.
