Peanuts are a key cash crop for the residents of Diem Son village in Xuan Diem, Dien Tien commune, Quang Nam province. The peanut oil extracted from these peanuts is not only used for family meals but is also sold to provide an income for the local community. Additionally, the husks and stems of the plants, after harvest, are repurposed as fertilizer for other crops.

The peanut season begins in December and lasts until February or March of the following year. Each planting cycle takes about three months before harvest. Across the fields, the peanut plants display a lush green color. During spring, the peanut flowers bloom, with bright yellow blossoms interspersed among the greenery, enhancing the beauty of this tranquil rural area.

Da Nang Weekend wishes to share with its readers images of the peanut season through the lens of author Huu Tan (Da Nang).

The peanut season is also a time of joy for the villagers of Xuan Diem. Members of the village come together to help one another by weeding, tilling the soil, and nurturing the lush peanut fields.

As early March arrives and the warm spring sun gives way to the sweltering heat of summer, the locals begin to irrigate the peanut fields if there is no rain. This helps keep the plants well-watered, promoting larger fruit development.

After more than three months of cultivation, it’s time for harvest. Farmers handpick the peanuts and gather them into bundles to take home. The peanut plants are tied together with strands of peanut vines for transport back to the house, where the fruits will be separated.
