Travelling through the western mountainous regions of Da Nang along National Highway 14G in March, visitors can witness the vibrant blooming of the Ri flowers (Ixora sp.), adorning the forests, streams, and scenic tourist spots. These unique blossoms, associated with the image of "flowering streams" add a poetic touch to the vast natural landscapes of Quang region.
Ri forest flowers are scattered along streams along National Highway 14G, especially in the section that runs through Hoa Phu Commune, Hoa Vang District, Da Nang, towards Ba Commune and Tu Commune, Dong Giang District, Quang Nam Province. |
Ri forest flowers bloom once a year, during late spring from March to mid-April. In the highland areas of Da Nang and Quang Nam, these trees typically grow solitarily or in small clusters of 2-3 trees along stream banks, near large rock formations. |
Ri tree features wide branches that extend towards the stream, with densely packed, long opposite leaves. The flowers bloom in clusters, covering the entire tree canopy, creating a massive bouquet of blossoms that stand out amidst the forest landscape. |
Travellers can admire the stunning Ri flowers at various tourist sites along National Highway 14G. In the photo: A scenic view of the Toom Sara Co Tu Village in Phu Tuc Hamlet, Hoa Phu Commune, Hoa Vang District, during the Ri flower season. |
Also known as Forest Ixora or Water Ixora, Ri flowers belong to the Rubiaceae family. The blossoms display a range of colours from yellow and orange to red and emit a delicate fragrance. |
Ri flowers are deeply connected to the cultural heritage of the Co Tu ethnic people. The flowers are often incorporated into traditional brocade garments and feature in important ceremonies. |
Ri forest flowers bloom in abundance along the streams, creating a picturesque "flowering stream" landscape. |
Along Central Viet Nam, Ri flowers can also be found in Ta Ma Stream, Vinh Thanh District, Binh Dinh Province, and Van Hoa Plateau, Son Hoa and Tuy An Districts, Phu Yen Province. |
These blossoms enhance the natural beauty of Hoa Phu, making it an attractive destination for visitors exploring the western highlands of Da Nang. |
