British Ambassador says farewell to city leader
The Da Nang People’s Committee Chairman, Mr Van Huu Chien, recently played host to the British Ambassador to Viet Nam, Dr Antony Stokes, who came to bid farewell at the end of his tenure in the country.
Chairman Chien spoke highly of the significant contributions made by the British diplomat during his tenure in boosting friendly and cooperative ties between Da Nang and the UK. He said he hoped that the Ambassador would continue his efforts to support Da Nang-UK cooperative projects, as well as promote the establishment of the UK-Viet Nam University in the city as soon as possible.

Mr Stokes said that Da Nang had left a deep impression on him during his visits, and he promised to come back to visit the city with his family members soon. He also thanked the local leaders for facilitating the implementation of UK-funded projects. They have included training nurses caring for newly-born babies at the Da Nang Maternity and Paediatrics Hospital, and promoting the opening of the Viet Nam-UK Research and Training Institute which will be upgraded to an international university in the future.
He vowed that he would do his utmost to strengthen cooperative relations between his country and Da Nang, and Viet Nam as a whole, and suggest that his government should grant double scholarships to Vietnamese students.
