He pointed to the significance of the agreement to Viet Nam’s fight for national liberation, unification and territorial integrity, as well as the national liberation movement in the world.

At the same time, the diplomat emphasized the relevance of lessons learnt from the conference to the national construction, reform and defence at present.

Ambassador Hiep also took the occasion to refute allegations distorting the fact that Viet Nam has sovereignty over Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagoes.

Speakers at the seminar dwelled on the significance, importance and impacts of the Geneva agreement on peace in Viet Nam and Indochina, as well as the leadership role of the Communist Party of Viet Nam and the late President Ho Chi Minh in the triumph of Vietnam’s diplomatic sector at that time.
