Japan's Shiogama Trade Union to support seafood sector
Da Nang People's Committee Chairman Huynh Duc Tho recently warmly received a group from the Fisheries Association in Japan’s Miyagi Prefecture, led by the Chairman of Shiogama Trade Union cum General Director of Minami Foods, Mr Utsumi Katsuo.
The visit aimed to seek cooperation opportunities with Da Nang’s partners in seafood catching and processing.
Chairman Utsumi Katsuo asked the city leaders to support his group's visits to local seafood companies to learn more about their operation in order to provide more practical consultancy services for them.
Mr Utsumi also promised that the Shiogama Trade Union would provide training courses for those involved in the city’s seafood catching and processing.

Chairman Duc Tho said he would like the union to be willing to give its help to develop the local seafood industry in a sustainable manner, with a focus on handling local environmental pollution problems.
The city leader also said that Da Nang is now one of the country’s 5 largest fisheries development centres. He added that his city has developed a closed infrastructure system at the Tho Quang fishing wharf and the Tho Quang Seafood Services Industrial Park.
Mr Duc Tho remarked that the city is now home to around 20 seafood processing businesses with a total annual output of 35,000 tonnes. Together they earn over 120 million USD from exports every year. The products, which include frozen shrimps, fish, cuttlefish, and grilled fish, are being exported to the European market, and to the USA, South Korea, China, Russia and Japan.
