Efforts to boost the city's global integration

DA NANG Today
Published: December 28, 2015

Over recent years, Da Nang has seen numerous positive results in its global integration.  This has mainly been attributed to the great efforts made by the Da Nang Union of Friendship Organisations (DAFO) in effectively implementing public diplomacy programmes and expanding friendly cooperation with other countries.

In particular, the organisation has played a significant role in advertising the city’s image to international friends and developing friendly relations with many countries around the world through the organisation of numerous cultural, culinary and educational events in the city.  This has helped the city strengthen its bilateral  economic cooperation with many foreign countries, and attract more foreign direct investment into the city.

Most notably, DAFO has also actively appealed for donations from many foreign non-governmental organisations to help the city effectively implement its social welfare policies.

In an attempt to help Da Nang boost its global integration when the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) is established later this year, DAFO has made various plans to help the city foster its friendly relations with regional nations and other countries worldwide.

The focus will be on establishing the city's branch of the Viet Nam-Cambodia Friendship Association and a representative office of ASEAN in the city.  Importance will also be attached to enhancing professional and foreign language skills for local government employees.

Further emphasis will also be on establishing a Central Region and Highlands Public Diplomacy Centre in Da Nang in the near future.

DAFO now has 11 member organisations, including the city's branch of the Viet Nam-Thai Friendship Association and the local branch of the Viet Nam-Lao Friendship Association.
