Promoting military cooperation with Cambodia
Representatives from Military Zone 5 of Viet Nam People's Army and Military Zone 1 of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces attended the 16th annual Joint Conference in Da Nang yesterday.
At the conference, the 2 sides entered into a joint agreement to boost bilateral cooperation in various aspects. In particular, Cambodian Military Zone 1 will continue helping the Vietnamese Military Zone 5 to find the remains of Vietnamese martyrs who laid down their lives in campaigns in Cambodia between 1979 and 1985. Meanwhile, the Vietnamese military will help Cambodia to build infrastructure and provide medical examinations and medicines for Cambodian residents in areas bordering Zone 5.
Under the agreement, the focus will also be on increasing mutual information exchange, and speeding up border demarcation and marker planting, as well as building a shared border of peace, friendship, stability, cooperation and development. Importance will also be attached to ensuring security and defence cooperation between the 2 countries and reducing the impact of natural disasters.
Also at the event, the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces presented Friendship Orders from the Cambodian King and government to 5 groups and 26 individuals from Zone 5. The Orders aim to recognise their great efforts in boosting the bilateral cooperation and friendship between the 2 countries over past years.
