Building strategic trust with Japan
On Wednesday, representatives of 150 businesses from Japan and localities in central Viet Nam attended the 50th Asia Business Conference, entitled ‘Building Strategic Trust with Japanese Partners on the Basis of Common Values’, in Da Nang.
The event was co-organised by the municipal People’s Committee (PC), the city’s branch of the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Brain Works Group.

Addressing the event, the Chief Executive Officer of the Brain Works Group, Mr Noboru Kondo, said “Viet Nam and Japan share many similarities in their development progress. Under the bilateral cooperation programmes with Viet Nam, Japan can share its technologies and valuable experiences to help Viet Nam deal with environmental pollution and poor quality food. On the other hand, your country will train skilled labourers who can speak Japanese fluently to work in Japan which has a rapidly ageing population.”
Municipal PC Vice Chairman Phung Tan Viet remarked, “Our city considers Japan as its potential strategic partner. Earlier this year, Da Nang established a representative office in Osaka City in order to appeal for more Japanese businesses to invest in the city. Da Nang-Osaka direct flights, with 4 flights a week, are expected to be opened in August.”
Ms Huynh Lien Phuong, Deputy Director of the city’s Investment Promotion Centre, took the opportunity to appeal for Japanese investors to invest in the city’s hi-tech industrial park, its international hospital, and its logistics centre. The Centre has already set up a Japan Desk which specialises in providing consultation services for Japanese investors.
