On Monday, Da Nang Party Committee Secretary and People’s Council Chairman Nguyen Xuan Anh hosted receptions for the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, Mr Saleumxay Kommasith, and the Ambassador of India to Viet Nam, Mr Parvathaneni Harish.

Lao Minister Kommasith said that he was very impressed by Da Nang’s rapid growth and its remarkable achievements over recent years.  He also took the opportunity to thank the city’s leaders for their active assistance to southern provinces of Laos, and for facilitating the Laos Consulate General in Da Nang to operate effectively.  He promised that he would do his utmost to deepen the special friendly relations with Da Nang, and with Viet Nam as a whole, in the future.

In reply, Secretary Anh expressed his delight at the long-lasting traditional ties with Laos, especially with the 5 southern provinces of Laos.  He said that he would make every effort to lift the bilateral cooperative relationships to new heights in the years ahead.

During his meeting with the city leader on the same day, the Indian ambassador remarked, “My government has poured 1.1 billion USD into Viet Nam and the figure is expected to increase in the years ahead.  India considers Da Nang to be one of the country’s priority localities for implementing cooperative programmes, with one focus being the Viet Nam-India English Training Centre in Da Nang.”  He vowed that he would strengthen the bilateral cooperative relationships with Da Nang in particular, and Viet Nam in general.

Secretary Anh noted that Da Nang and India shared many similarities, which will help open up new cooperative opportunities in such aspects as tourism, services, hi-tech, information technology, education, healthcare and culture.  He pledged that the city authorities will always create favourable conditions for foreign investors, including those from India, to invest in the city.
