New officials on municipal People's Council and People's Committee
The 1st session of the Da Nang People’s Council (PCl) in its 9th tenure of the 2016 - 2021 term took place on Thursday, with the aim of electing the key officials of the municipal PCl and People’s Committee (PC).
In his opening speech, the Chairman of the 8th PCl, Mr Tran Tho, congratulated the 49 newly elected deputies for the PCl, and urged them to do their utmost to fulfil their assigned tasks well.
At the event, municipal PC Secretary Nguyen Xuan Anh took the position of Chairman of the PCl, whilst Mr Nguyen Nho Trung was re-elected its Vice Chairman.

A standing member of the 8th PCl, Mrs Phan Thi Thuy Linh, was promoted to be Head of the PCl’s Economics and Budget Board.
Mr Pham Tan Xu was re-elected Head of the PCl’s Cultural and Social Board.
The former Director of the city’s Justice Department, Mr Phan Thanh Long, was promoted to be Head of the PCl’s Justice Board.
The former Dean of the Architecture Faculty at the city’s University of Technology, Mr To Van Hung, was promoted to be Head of the PCl’s Board of Urban Affairs.
Mr Huynh Duc Tho was re-elected Chairman of the city’s People’s Committee in its 9th tenure. Mr Dang Viet Dung, Mr Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, and Mr Ho Ky Minh were all re-elected Vice Chairmen, and the 4th Vice Chairman is Mr Tran Van Mien, the former Director of the city’s Taxation Department.

Also at the event, 20 members of the city’s PC and 20 jurors of the municipal People’s Court were elected.
All these new key position holders will serve tenures of 5 years.
Addressing the event, Chairman Huynh Duc Tho pledged that the officials of the municipal PC would uphold their spirit of solidarity, responsibility and creativity to effectively implement the resolutions of the city’s PCl.
In his closing speech, Chairman Anh emphasised “The 9th tenure of the municipal PCl is the first term to implement the national Law on the Organisation of Local Governments and the Law on Supervisory Activities of the National Assembly and PCls”. He therefore vowed that the city authorities would effectively deal with local issues of deep concern. He noted in particular that any local government official found being irresponsible, corrupt, or abusing their power will be strictly punished, and risks being relieved of their position.
He also took the opportunity to ask the PC and other local relevant agencies to accelerate administrative reforms. He believed that the local authorities and local residents would work together to make Da Nang a more civilised, modern, peaceful and prosperous city in the years ahead.
Also at the event, former municipal PCl Chairman Tran Tho was presented with a third-class Independence Medal from the State President in recognition of his great dedication and devotion to the city’s progress during his tenure.
