Work on protecting national maritime sovereignty reviewed
On Thursday, Da Nang People’s Committee Vice Chairman Phung Tan Viet chaired a meeting to review the performance of the Steering Board for the East Sea and Islands over the 2010 - 2015 period, and identify its new tasks for the next 5 years.
Over the period, the Steering Board took the initiative to synchronously implement measures to increase the management and protection of the country’s security and sovereignty over its sea and islands, as well as fulfil the tasks assigned by the central and city governments.
Addressing the event, Vice Chairman Viet praised the board and local relevant agencies for their great efforts in protecting the national maritime sovereignty over the past 5 years. He also asked them to widely publicise the country’s sea and islands-related laws amongst local fishermen, residents and organisations. The laws include the National Border Law, the Law of the Sea of Viet Nam, and the Agreement on Delimitation of the Tonkin Gulf.
The focus will be on encouraging all local citizens to protect the country’s sea border security, and asking local border guard forces to suggest to the city authorities better ways to protect Viet Nam's sovereignty over its sea and islands.
Also at the meeting, 75 outstanding individuals were awarded medals in recognition of their active involvement in the country’s marine sovereignty protection work between 2010 and 2015.
