The visit was in recognition of the 40th anniversary (18 July) of the signing of the bilateral Friendship and Cooperation Treaty between Viet Nam and Laos, and the 55th (5 September) anniversary of diplomatic ties.

Secretary Anh remarked that, since the signing of the diplomatic agreements, the time-honoured traditional friendship and multi-faceted cooperation between the 2 countries has been further deepened.

In particular, recent years have seen numerous remarkable achievements in the bilateral relationships between Da Nang and Laotian localities.  Most notably, in October 2016 some of the city’s high-ranking officers paid a working visit to 5 Southern Laotian localities, during which many bilateral cooperation agreements were signed.  This was considered to be vivid evidence of the special bilateral friendship.

The city leader also highly praised the Laotian Consulate General for enthusiastically receiving many delegations of Laotian guests arriving in the city over recent years.  This agency has acted as a bridge in strengthening the bilateral relationship between Da Nang and southern Laotian localities, with a focus on promoting people-to-people exchanges and the spirit of solidarity.  He also expressed his desire that the bilateral ties between the 2 countries will be long-lasting, and that the operation of the Laotian Consulate General will be even more effective.

In reply, Laotian Consul General Khamsene Phommaseng thanked the city leaders for their kind concern for his agency over past years.  In particular, despite incitements and sabotage plots by hostile forces, the 2 countries have always increased the spirit of vigilance, and put the ultimate trust in the leadership of the Party, State, and people of the 2 countries in a bid to maintain the fruitful bilateral ties.

The Laotian diplomat also vowed that he would continue to make every effort to strengthen the relationship between Da Nang and southern Laotian localities in more intensive ways.  He also hoped that, in the years ahead, the Party, government and people of Da Nang would gain more success on the path towards making it a more civilised and modern city.
