In particular, Da Nang and Yokohama inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on sustainable urban development in 2013. Under the agreement, Yokohama helped Da Nang deal with unexpected issues arising during the city’s urban development progress.
During the 2014 - 2016 period, a total of 6 forums entitled ‘Da Nang Urban Development’ were jointly organised in the city by the municipal PC, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and the Yokohama City authorities. Through these events, leaders of Da Nang and Yokohama together agreed to implement many important projects in Da Nang. Included were solid waste management and the classification of garbage at home, feasibility study on the construction of the Lien Chieu Port, wastewater collection systems along coastal areas, urban planning and management projects.
The host also asked for help from Mayor Hayashi to implement projects which the two localities agreed to cooperate, as well as to appeal for even more investors from her city to Da Nang. He pledged that the local authorities would create very favourable conditions for investors from Yokohama, and from Japan as a whole, to deploy their projects in his city effectively.
In reply, Mrs Hayashi highlighted great potential for cooperating with Da Nang in such aspects as urban development, public-private partnerships, education, culture, and medical employee exchange activities.
The guest hoped that the bilateral cooperative relations with Da Nang would be further strengthened in the years ahead.
