The city's proposal for hosting future WEF on East Asia
On Tuesday afternoon, Da Nang People's Committee Chairman Huynh Duc Tho met with Dr Philipp Rösler, the World Economic Forum (WEF) Managing Director and former Vice-Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany. The meeting was on the sidelines of the Viet Nam Business Summit which took place at the Ariyana Convention Centre in Da Nang on the same day.

Chairman Tho remarked that hosting the ongoing APEC Economic Leaders’ Week 2017 helps his city enrich its experience in developing modern infrastructure and a good transportation system, abundant accommodation and service providers and high quality human resources, as well as in ensuring ultimate security.
The city leader also asked for help from Managing Director Rösler to appeal for even more international businesses to invest in such priority areas in Da Nang as information technology, hi-tech, healthcare, education, tourism and logistics.
Most notably, Chairman Tho took the opportunity to ask Dr Rösler to consider selecting Da Nang as the host of the upcoming WEF on East Asia. This is indeed one of the key international events that the city has always longed to host, thereby helping to re-affirm its position as ‘Asia’s Leading Festival and Event Destination’, the award it won at the World Travel Awards (WTAs) Asia & Australasia Gala Ceremony 2016.
In reply, Dr Rösler highly appreciated the city leader’s proposal of hosting the WEF on East Asia event. In his remarks, he affirmed that Da Nang is indeed a suitable venue for this important event.
This high-profile official also vowed that the WEF’s Managing Board would carefully consult with representatives from the Vietnamese government in the coming time to decide whether or not Da Nang is chosen to host the WEF on East Asia event.
