The Da Nang People’s Committee held its annual get-together on Thursday for expats who now live and work across the city in celebration of the upcoming Tet (the Vietnamese Lunar New Year) Festival 2021.
Da Nang Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Van Quang (centre) on Thursday honours the outstanding foreign organisations and individuals for their great devotion for the city's growth, as well as their active involvement in strengthening international friendship, and humanitarian aid work in the city over the past year |
Present at this event were Da Nang Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Van Quang, Party Committee Deputy Secretary cum People’s Council Chairman Luong Nguyen Minh Triet, Party Committee Deputy Secretary cum People's Committee Chairman Le Trung Chinh, and representatives from foreign diplomatic agencies, international organisations, and FDI businesses across the city.
In his remarks at the event, Chairman Chinh briefed the participants on the general overview of Da Nang’s socio-economic performances over the past year.
2020 noticeably showcased Da Nang’s great efforts in completing its goals under the socio-economic development plans set for the 2016 - 2020 period, heading towards the 2021 – 2025 period, complying with the Politburo-adopted Resolution No 43-NQ/TW regarding Da Nang’s major developments to 2030 with a vision to 2045, and also especially, implementing the '2020: the year of promoting investment attraction’ landmark campaign.
In face of the negative impact of the coronavirus pandemic and unfavourable weather conditions, 2020 still saw FDI inflows channeled into Da Nang increase by nearly 38%, compared with 2019.
Another bright spot was that Da Nang was honoured with the Viet Nam Smart City Award 2020, and picked up three other national-level prizes in the categories of smart public services, smart digital infrastructure, and the best cities for startups and innovations.
The municipal government chief noted that the above-mentioned positive results were partly attributed to the great efforts made by international organisations, experts and investors in effectively implementing many cooperative programmes and projects in the city.
He also highly applauded the expat community in Da Nang for their great devotion for the city's progress over the past year, taking the opportunity to ask them to continue joining efforts with Da Nang government and its residents to drive the post-pandemic economic recovery of Da Nang, and that of Central Viet Nam at large.
The most favourable possible conditions will be ensured for the expat community for their safe and better stay in Da Nang, pledged Chairman Chinh.
Also at the event, 36 foreign organisations and 14 individuals received Certificates of Merit from Da Nang People’s Committee in recognition of their great devotion for the city's growth, as well as their active involvement in strengthening international friendship, and humanitarian aid work in the city over the past year.
