Actions taken for climate change responses and mitigation
The Da Nang People's Committee has just issued a decision approving the action plan to respond to climate change in Da Nang until 2030, with a vision towards 2050.
Under the plan, importance will be attached to managing and using economically and efficiently water resources, applying water-saving technologies and production methods, meeting the public demand for water, and proactively minimising the harmful effects of water depletion and saltwater intrusion due to the adverse impacts of climate change.
Besides, heed will be paid to consolidating sections of important sea and riverside dykes and developing wave breaks and coastal protection forests to promote the role of ‘natural shields” so as to ensure the resilience to natural disasters under the scenarios of climate change, sea level rise and saline intrusion.
Also, shelters for fishing vessels and areas in service for fishery logistics will take shape.
Other important tasks will include the upgrading of small and medium-sized reservoirs and ensuring water supplies for production and daily life, and the safety of downstream residential areas.
It is also necessary to deploy development strategies and master plans to develop technical, socio-economic infrastructure, urban areas and residential areas in accordance with climate change scenarios.
Besides, a system for flood and inundation adaptation and mitigation in urban areas should be built up.
