Over the past few days, the SOS team of students from Da Nang-based Dong A University has been active in providing motorbike repairs for returnees to their hometowns from COVID-struck southern provinces by motorbike through Hai Van Pass despite the rainy, cold, and strong windy weather at night so that they can travel home safely.

Doan Phuong Nam, majoring in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, the Dong A University and other 7 members of the SOS motorcycle rescue team, over recent days, have assisted travellers at the peak of the pass from 3:00 pm until next mornings, then hurriedly run back to his room for online lessons in time after rescuing motorbikes over night.

“I have had only about 2 to 3 hours per day to sleep. In addition to participating in the SOS team to repair motorbikes for returnees on the top of Hai Van Pass, I have also coordinated with other groups of my university’s Youth Union to participate in being on duty at the C9 city’s gate checkpoint with other support groups of the Youth Union." Said Nam.

Huynh Van Duy, Xuan Tanh, Quang Thuan, etc. are Nam’s companions during his meaningfull tasks at the peak of the Pass to contribute partly in ensuring the returnees’ tough come-back-home journey. They are students majoring in engineering from Dong A University so it is easier for them to check and replace motorbikes’ spare parts, change fuel oil free of charge for damaged motorcycles that need repair.

On average, the SOS team of the Dong A University provides assistance for more than 50 motorbikes per night. There was a peak day on which they had to repair over 120 motorbikes overnight till next day’s noon with a huge load of work. In addition, they also follow the returnees passing through the Pass to Lang Co town to promptly support in case of occuring any troubles during their next journey.

Having joined the SOS team of Dong A University since the end of July, now these students have restarted their mission of supporting the people from October 2 with 12 members who are always willing to be on duty. In order to protect themselves as well as other people, they are equipped with protective suits, anti-droplet shield, and strictly adheres to regulations on pandemic prevention and control.

From October 8-10, more than 500 vehicles were repaired and had oil or flat tyres changed by the team.

Moreover, Dong A University’s teacher also participated in supporting 1,000 meals and 1,200 large bottles of drinking water, 500 raincoats, 20 boxes of instant noodles to help returnees on their long and arduous journey back home. We are sure that they could feel attentive care, warmth, sincerity and kindness from the government and the people of Da Nang when stopping for rest in the city.
