On Friday morning, October 8, Da Nang People's Committee Chairman Le Trung Chinh and Vice Chairman Le Quang Nam made an inspection visit to the transit station south of the Hai Van Tunnel to check the support work for people who return to their hometowns from COVID-struck southern provinces on motorbikes passing through Da Nang.

During his visit, Chairman Chinh highly lauded great efforts made by functional bodies and volunteer groups in giving spiritual and in-kind support to people leaving worst-hit southern localities for home whilst travelling through Da Nang.
“Traffic police, functional bodies and volunteers have ramped up their efforts to support returnees at the city’s gateway checkpoints, as well as ensure attentiveness, traffic safety and pandemic prevention and control for them” the city leader remarked.
Mr Chinh also stressed the need for the municipal Red Cross Society and volunteer units to ensure food safety and hygiene whilst providing piping hot rice soup for children and sick people along the way. “In spite of many difficulties, we still have to do our best to take care of returnees and facilitate a safe return to home” emphasized he.
Chairman Chinh said that the way back home was still so long and arduous, but at least they could feel attentive care, warmth, sincerity and kindness from the government and the people of the city when stopping for rest in the city.

Following recent instructions from the Da Nang government on supporting for people on their way home from the Southern localities, volunteer groups and relevant agencies have been active in providing food, drinking water, and motorbike repairs, all free-of-charge, for returnees so that they can travel home safely.
In the rainy, cold and strong windy weather, traffic police have coordinated with relevant units to lead the way for the returnees passing through the Hai Van Tunnel, then handing them over to neighbouring localities for continued support.
Senior Colonel Bui Chi Hoa, Deputy Head of the Traffic Police Office under the Da Nang Police Department, said recent years have seen an increasing number of returnees from the south passing through Da Nang. A total of 2,024 people were seen travelling through Da Nang on 1,068 motorbikes. Today, October 8, nearly 300 people, along with 150 motorbikes, gathered at the transit station to receive support from the city’s authorities to pass through the Hai Van Tunnel safely.
