Da Nang boosts bilateral cooperation with European partners

Europe is one of Da Nang’s potential investment partners. Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Ho Ky Minh made the statement on Friday whilst receiving Mr. Alain Cany, President of Jardines Matheson Viet Nam cum Chairman of the European Chamber of Commerce in Viet Nam (EuroCham), and some EuroCham’s member enterprises.

Vice Chairman Minh briefed his guests on some of the city’s remarkable achievements over the past time.

Specifically, as of late 2021, Da Nang had attracted about 140 FDI projects from European countries with a total investment capital of nearly $480 million. 92 of them, totalling $99 million, had come from the European Union (EU) member states.

Since the start of this year, Da Nang has hosted many programmes to promote connection with businesses from such foreign countries as Spain, the Netherlands, and Germany. The EU is Da Nang’s third largest exporter after Japan and the United States, and also is the third largest importer after Japan and China.

EU investors consider Da Nang to be an attractive destination for "green" industry. They show their keen interest in such the city’s priority aspects as high technology, digital transformation, and climate change adaption.

In terms of infrastructure, the city is the country’s leading transport hub. The Da Nang Port is a modernly equipped container port in Central Viet Nam, and is one of the largest commercial ports in Viet Nam.

Meanwhile, the Da Nang International Airport is one of the three largest and most modern airports in the country. The city is house to one Hi-tech Park, six industrial parks and four centralised information technology zones (one zone is under construction and about to be put into operation).

Most specially, the Da Nang Hi-Tech Park is one of the country’s three high-tech parks that have officially received specific mechanisms granted by Viet Nam's national government, with the release of many support incentives for domestic and foreign investors in terms of land rental fees, corporate income taxes, and other outstanding privileges. Covering an area of ​​more than 1,200 hectares, the park boasts synchronous centralised infrastructure to meet the production needs of investors, and superior investment incentive policies on corporate income tax.

In addition, Da Nang is also continuously in the group of leading localities in Viet Nam's Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) and is increasingly improving indicators such as: transparency and business support policies in which the European business community is interested.

For his part, Mr. Alain Cany said the working session provided an opportunity for EuroCham to grasp more information about to programmes promote investment attraction in Da Nang, especially investment procedures in the local Hi-Tech Park, and the dedicated IT Park.

He expressed his pleasure when European businesses were operating effectively in Da Nang.

The guest asked for support from Da Nang government to facilitate EuroCham businesses to bring immigration experts to the city, as well as to further to expand their business activities, thereby contributing to promoting the strategic partnership between Viet Nam and Europe.
