2022 is a particularly important year for both Viet Nam and Cambodia when the two countries have joined efforts to organise many meaningful celebrations of the Viet Nam - Cambodia Friendship Year and the 55^th anniversary of the diplomatic ties (June 24).

Da Nang Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Van Quang made the statement while hosting a reception on Sunday for Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Men Sam An, who is also Minister of the National Assembly - Senate Relations and Inspection of Cambodia, and Chairwoman of the Cambodia - Viet Nam Friendship Parliamentarians' Group.

On behalf of the city leaders, Secretary Quang expressed his delight at the remarkable achievements that Cambodia has achieved in recent years.

He also briefed his guest on the city’s socio-economic results in 2022. Despite many difficulties and challenges, the city's economy recovered and developed strongly which was mainly attributed to the solidarity and efforts of the whole city, the timely guidance of the central government, and the support and companionship of residents and businesses.

Specifically, Da Nang ranked third in the country in gross regional domestic product (GRDP) growth in 2022 with 14.05%. The city's total State budget collection reached more than 120% of the estimate. Tourism recorded a strong recovery as the number of visitors staying at accommodation establishments increased 3 times compared to 2021.

Over the past years, Da Nang has welcomed many delegations of high-ranking Cambodian officials. The city has already signed an agreement to establish a cooperative relationship with Battambang Province, Cambodia, on the basis of the cooperation relationship between former Quang Nam - Da Nang Province and Battambang Province in the 1980s.

Da Nang and Battambang have together carried out cooperative programmes in the aspects of tourism, culture and sports, education and training, agriculture, investment and trade, as well as regularly sent delegations of local leaders to visit, work and exchange directions to promote bilateral cooperation.

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Men Sam An, for her part, thanked the city leaders for their warm welcome and appreciated high cooperation relationship between Da Nang and localities of Cambodia in the past time.

She affirmed that Cambodia will continue to promote bilateral cooperation relations with Vietnamese localities, including Da Nang, in such spheres as tourism, trade, education, agriculture, and human resource development.
