Da Nang gets approval for master plan for 2021-2030 period, with a vision towards 2050

During his working session with the Da Nang leaders on Tuesday in Ha Noi, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung gave approval for the city's draft master plan for 2021-2030 period, with a vision towards 2050 and its strategic environmental assessment report.

In his remarks at the working session, through the draft master plan, and opinions raised by ministries, branches, experts, scientists and experts, Da Nang will be a worth living city associated with ensuring the environment, national defence - security, culture - society and new trends in the world by 2030 with a vision towards 2050.

He suggested the city conduct research and propose specific and outstanding mechanisms to build an regional-scale international financial centre and a free trade zone.

Greater efforts should be made to improve traffic and digital infrastructure, attract high-quality human resources and talents, reduce carbon emissions, review plans for regional linkages and land use issues, and determine the basis for the construction of economic corridors.

Mr. Dung stressed the need for the city to work with the Ministry of Construction to clarify issues related to tourist, industrial and airport urban areas, especially the building of Hoa Vang District into a town by 2025.

Heed should be on reviewing issues related to urban drainage, flood prevention, assurance of water security, and carbon emission reduction.

He urged Da Nang to soon finalise the draft master plan and its strategic environmental assessment report in order for the competent authorities to submit them to the Prime Minister for approval.

In reply, municipal People’s Committee Chairman Le Trung Chinh said that the construction of shared infrastructure of the Lien Chieu Port project is underway in the city. As for the economic structure, the city is developing in the direction of services and tourism, but really leaning towards high-tech and information technology industries, as well as calling for investment in high-tech industry and seaports.

The city is on course to expand its urban areas to the west and northwest sides, and build a regional-scale international financial centre.

The focus is on developing culture in sync with economic development, especially making the Museum of Da Nang the largest of its kind in Viet Nam and seeking for approval from the Prime Minister to upgrade the Marble Mountains Tourist Area.

The city also attaches great importance to the protection of forests and marine environment, with a key on the implementation of the ‘Building Da Nang into Environmentally-friendly city’ project in the 2021 - 2030 period, the construction of a waste treatment plant combined with electricity generation with a capacity of 650 tonnes/ day, and the relocation of production facilities out of residential areas.

Over the past time, the city has prioritised resources to invest in the rainwater drainage system as well as well coordinate with Quang Nam Province in ensuring water security for the city.

Furthermore, the soon-to-be-operated Hoa Lien Water Supply Plant helps ensure the sufficient water supply for the daily lives, and the agricultural and industrial production activities of local citizens.
