Da Nang, Yokohama seek ways to achieve carbon neutrality
On Wednesday afternoon, the Da Nang Department of Natural Resources and Environment in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency, Yokohama City and the Japanese Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) organised a workshop to review the implementation of the Japanese Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment-sponsored cooperation project towards a sustainable and carbon neutral city between Da Nang and Yokohama.
According to a report released by the Da Nang Department of Natural Resources and Environment, since 2013, the central coastal city of Viet Nam and Yokohama have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on boosting cooperation in sustainable urban development, especially in the field of environment.
After 3 years of implementing, the project has significantly contributed to the project on building Da Nang into an environmentally friendly city during the 2021-2030 period, proposing a number of solutions for the effective implementation of action plans on climate change and policies towards building a carbon-neutral plan for the city, and piloting extracurricular activities to help improve the capacity of climate change education for teachers and students at primary and junior high schools in the city.
Additionally, a number of specific demonstration projects to promote the deployment and transfer of energy-saving and renewable energy technologies (also known as low-carbon technologies) have been proposed. Forums to promote cooperation, connection and technology transfer between companies in Da Nang and Yokohama have been held.
The workshop also featured discussions about IGES' recommendations on net zero carbon emission policy (Net-zero) in Da Nang, as well as potential cooperation opportunities in the future between Da Nang and Yokohama in the field of zero-carbon city development.
