Joining hands to care for and support victims of AO
The 5th Congress of the Da Nang Association of Victims of Agent Orange/dioxin (DAVA) in the 2023 - 2028 term took place at the traditional hall of the city’s Military Command on Wednesday.

Speaking at the congress, municipal People’s Committee Chairman Le Trung Chinh highly lauded the remarkable achievements of the Association and its chapters at all levels over the past term.
He added, over the past 5 years, despite many difficulties, challenges, natural disasters, and epidemics which greatly affect the mobilisation of resources and implementation of proposed tasks, the Association has made its great efforts to well fulfill its tasks and care for victims of AO with a high sense of responsibility and determination.
The Association has provided very practical support for nearly 40,000 turns of AO victims with a total amount of nearly VND20 billion. At the same time, it has maintained and well organised the boarding care and nurturing model for more than 110 children of AO and disabled children at the center, which is highly appreciated by UNICEF as a typical model for improving the quality of day care for disabled children, a destination of many domestic and foreign delegations when visiting Da Nang, and s especially reliable support for local victims of AO.

Chairman Chinh expressed his hope that, in the next term, the Association will pay special attention to developing an appropriate and effective operation plan in order to help the needy rise up and integrate into the community, ensuring that all individuals are equal and clearly demonstrating the humanity of social security work.
Importance should be attached to further improving the effectiveness of social resource mobilisation in caring for and helping AO victims in the most appropriate, practical and effective way, he added.
Also, heed will be on taking advantage of the experience and technical support of international organisations in effectively applying care models in the city, as well as creating the best possible conditions to help AO victims to gradually integrate into the community.

In his remarks at the congress, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Rinh, Chairman of the Viet Nam Association for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin (VAVA) proposed that the DAVA continue to promote propaganda work on the consequences of chemical warfare, and the Party and State's guidelines and policies on helping AO victims and their families be self-reliant to master their lives, and integrate into the community.
Also on the occasion, the Central Committee of VAVA awarded medals "For Victims of Agent Orange" to 7 individuals in recognition of their great contribution to the cause of caring for and helping Vietnamese victims of AO.
Additionally, Certificates of Merit were given to 4 groups and 5 individuals with outstanding achievements in the emulation movement "For victims of Agent Orange" in the 2018-2023 period.
