A ceremony was held in Da Nang on Wednesday to award the titles of Hero of the People's Armed Forces to Company 3, Zone III Hoa Vang, Quang Da Province, and K20 revolutionary base, District No.3 (currently known as Ngu Hanh Son District).

Speaking at the ceremony, Da Nang People's Committee Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh acknowledged that the great victory of the resistance war against the US invaders for national liberation was one of the great epics in the history of building and defending the country; as well as a glorious and heroic victory of the Vietnamese revolution.

The victory was partly attributed to the sacrifices of revolutionary officers and soldiers of Company 3, Zone III Hoa Vang and K20 Revolutionary Base, he added.

Therefore, the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces is the recognition and respect of the Party and State for the great contributions of officers and soldiers of Company 3, Zone III Hoa Vang and K20 Revolutionary Base.

It is also an honour, pride, and a source of spiritual encouragement for the Party Committee, government, people and armed forces of Ngu Hanh Son District in particular and Da Nang in general.

Vice Chairman Minh took the opportunity to ask officials, people and armed forces of Ngu Hanh Son District to continue to preserve and protect the achievements created by previous generations; uphold the spirit and responsibility; and strengthen solidarity and consensus among people in order to successfully realise the goal of building Ngu Hanh Son District into an innovative, creative, classy, civilised and modern urban area.

He also laid an emphasis on taking care of social policy beneficiaries and people with meritorious services in the locality; as well as educating revolutionary tradition for the younger generation.

In addition, there should be a plan to long-term preserve and effectively promote historical, cultural and traditional values at the K20 revolutionary base, Mr. Minh noted.

Company 3, Zone III Hoa Vang was established on October 1, 1967. During the resistance war against the US, the unit destroyed many US means of warfare, and achieved many outstanding achievements, contributing to the liberation of the Zone 3 Hoa Vang and Da Nang.

During the resistance war against the US, K20 was the codename used to refer to the Da Man revolutionary base in Khue My Ward, Ngu Hanh Son District, Da Nang, where the 3^rd District Party Committee and the municipal Party Committee were stationed to lead the revolutionary movement.

The people of the K20 revolutionary base not only directly participated in the resistance wars, but also built a system of secret tunnels which were used for the storage of weapons and food, as well as hiding revolutionary cadres.

In 2010, the K20 Revolutionary Base was recognised as a national-level relic site by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

With the aforementioned outstanding achievements, on October 17, 2023, State President Vo Van Thuong signed a Decision awarding the titles 'Hero of the People's Armed Forces’ to Company 3, Zone III Hoa Vang, Quang Da Province, and K20 Revolutionary Base, District 3, Da Nang (currently known as Ngu Hanh Son District, Da Nang).
