With sweltering summer heat waves or bone-chilling winter cold snaps, officers and soldiers of the 2nd Border Guard Squadron remain unwavering with hands on trigger and eyes on Viet Nam’s marine borders to safeguard national sovereignty over sea and islands.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Thuong, the Politician of the 2nd Border Guard Squadron, highlighted huge efforts the unit has made to take on responsibility for their assigned tasks and do their best to accomplish their duties during celebrations for the 65th anniversary of the Border Guard Force (March 3) and 35th anniversary of National Defence Day.
Over the past year, the unit conducted 45 maritime patrols with 400 officers and soldiers in order to safeguard national sovereignty at sea, suppress criminal activities at sea, take action against illegal fishing, and conduct search and rescue operations at sea. In addition, heed was paid to ensuring the safety of crew members on foreign military ships visiting Da Nang.
In the past year, despite the many challenges faced, officers and soldiers of the 2nd Border Guard Squadron made great efforts to achieve notable results in safeguarding national sovereignty over sea and islands, as well as ensuring security and safety at sea.
In addition, importance was paid to raising awareness of Vietnamese and International Maritime Laws among local fishermen. Special attention was given to promoting strict compliance with International Fisheries Law among Vietnamese fishermen in a bid to encourage them to not infringe on the sovereignty of neighboring countries' waters while fishing at sea, as well as not enter sites for oil and gas drilling and extraction.
The unit will continue its efforts to build organizational strength and increase mutual solidarity between military personnel and local people, as well as uphold the spirit of determination and dedication within its officers and soldiers in order to protect the national sovereignty over sea and its islands.
