A ceremony took place in Da Nang’s Hai Chau District on Tuesday to inaugurate a symbolic statue featuring logos of the district and Uiwang City, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea at the Nam Duong Park.

In 2021, Hai Chau District officially set up a friendly relationship with Uiwang City. At that time, due to the complicated development of COVID-19, the two localities held an online signing ceremony for boosting the bilateral cooperation activities.

Over the past three years, on the basis of equality and mutual respect, Hai Chau District and Uiwang City have actively organised many meaningful cooperation and friendly exchange activities.

To mark the achievements of cooperation between the two localities, Hai Chau District inaugurated the symbolic statue of logos of Hai Chau District and Uiwang City at the Nam Duong Park in the namesake ward.

This is a mark of affection and cohesion during the cooperation process between the two localities, greatly contributing to promoting the image and people of Uiwang City to the people of Hai Chau District in particular and Da Nang in general.

Chairman of Hai Chau District People's Committee Le Tu Gia Thanh said that although there were differences in natural conditions, climate, and language, Hai Chau District and Uiwang City have jointly organised many meaningful cooperation and exchange activities.

Notable among them was the cultural exchange programme for junior high school pupils of Hai Chau District held in Uiwang City in October 2023. The event provided the good opportunity for Hai Chau District pupils to learn about South Korean culture, cuisine and language, as well as meet many foreign friends of the same age.

On January 22, the Chairman of Hai Chau District and the Mayor of Uiwang City signed an agreement to build a comprehensive cooperative relationship by 2025.

According to the representative of Uiwang City, under the agreement, Hai Chau District and Uiwang City are considered " twin sister localities".

Mr. Kim Sung Jei, Mayor of Uiwang City, remarked that his locality and Hai Chau District shared many similarities in rich natural resources, and developed tourism industry. He, therefore, expressed his hope that in the coming time the two localities will promote their strengths, and foster their cooperation in order to develop and preserve resources for future generations.

It is known that the two localities have had many diverse cooperation activities in the fields of economics, culture, education, sports and healthcare. In particular, Uiwang City donated 30,000 medical masks to Hai Chau District in order to serve the work of pandemic prevention and control. In 2022, Hai Chau District People's Committee supported 60 books to Uiwang City Multicultural Centre.

In November 2022, the group of officials from Uiwang City visited and worked with Hai Chau District. The two sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding on boosting the cooperation in the fields of education and economics.

In May 2023, the Hai Chau District delegation visited Uiwang City, and leaders of the two localities signed a cultural exchange programme for senior high school pupils.

In October 2023, a group of junior high school pupils of Hai Chau District participated in the Cultural Exchange Programme in Uiwang City.
