During his recent reception for US Ambassador to Viet Nam Marc E. Knapper in Da Nang, municipal People's Committee Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh revealed that his city has been exerting every effort to prepare the necessary conditions to attract US businesses to choose the city as a location to expand investment and business activities in semiconductor chips in Viet Nam.

He added that the Da Nang Semiconductor and Artificial Intelligence Centre for Research and Training (DSAC) was established in December 2023. The centre will carry out research and design training activities in the fields of microchips, semiconductors, artificial intelligence development, technology transfer, and international cooperation.

It will also be responsible for mobilising resources, as well as linking and cooperating with domestic and foreign partners, in order to promote research and training in IC and semiconductor design and artificial intelligence development in the city according to provisions of law.

Mr. Minh, therefore, asked for support from the US diplomat to connect Da Nang with US businesses involving semiconductor industry, as well as help the city establish the Assembly, testing, and packaging (ATP) centre in the near future.

For his part, the US ambassador underlined a must-do for Da Nang to synchronously deploy solutions to build an ecosystem to develop the semiconductor industry, including education, training, high-quality human resources, infrastructure, and improved capacity for accessing renewable energy sources. This will help the city realise its goal of turning itself into an attractive investment destination in the semiconductor industry in Viet Nam.

Mr. Marc E. Knapper also highly appreciated the municipal government’s great efforts in making a strategy to develop the semiconductor industry.

He also affirmed his readiness to support Da Nang to cooperate with US partners in terms of government, business and university education, thereby bringing Da Nang, and Viet Nam as a whole, deeper into the global semiconductor supply chain.
