Da Nang promptly implements cooperation programmes with Savannakhet Province

During his meeting on Sunday with Governor of Laos’ Savannakhet Province Bounchom Oubonpaserth, Da Nang People's Committee Chairman Le Trung Chinh affirmed that his city will ensure on-schedule implementation of the cooperation contents between the two localities in the 2023-2027 period.

Chairman Chinh informed that, in 2023, Da Nang welcomed many high-ranking delegations from Savannakhet Province.

The city granted scholarships for 19 officials and students of Savannakhet Province to study at the University of Da Nang at the graduate and undergraduate levels in the 2023-2024 school year. Also, the city sent 2 teachers to teach Vietnamese at the Vietnamese Language Center of Savannakhet Province in the 2023-2024 school year, as well as supported 42 officials and students of the center to make field trips in Da Nang.

In 2024, Da Nang and Savannakhet Province will continue to maintain the exchange of high-level delegations at department and sector levels to further strengthen the friendly relationship.

Da Nang continues to provide scholarships to 26 officials and students to study at the University of Da Nang at the doctoral, graduate and undergraduate levels in the 2024-2025 school year; appoint 2 Vietnamese language teachers at the provincial Vietnamese Language Center for the 2024-2025 school year; and offer training courses for 10 officers of the province's Department of Agriculture and Forestry.

Additionally, the city will continue to organize the International East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC) Trade and Tourism Fair to strengthen trade connections, promote investment, tourism, trade and export between Da Nang with Lao localities, including Savannakhet Province.

Importance will be attached to hosting programmes to introduce, connect, and promote investment activities of Da Nang businesses to the south central provinces of Laos, in order to maintain and create more stable and sustainable customers from the Lao market through Da Nang seaports on the EWEC, thereby creating conditions for the development of logistics service activities.

At the same time, attention will be paid to contributing to the effective implementation of the Viet Nam - Laos friendship cooperation programme under the project "Developing logistics services in Da Nang to effectively connect with the key economic zone in Central Viet Nam and the EWEC during the 2021 – 2030 period, with a vision to 2050".

On the occasion of Bunpimay Tet, Chairman Chinh wished the Party Committee, government and people of Savannakhet Province a happy new year. On behalf of the city, he donated Savannakhet Province VND500 million in an effort to support disadvantaged people to celebrate a warm and peaceful Tet.

For his part, Governor of Bounchom Oubonpaserth thanked Da Nang for its special care for Savannakhet in recent times, which had actively contributed to promoting the province's socio-economic development.

During their working visit to Savannakhet, the Da Nang delegation went to memorial sites to lay wreaths and spend a minute of silence to commemorate the great contributions of President Ho Chi Minh and President Kaysone Phomvihane for the revolutionary cause of Viet Nam and Laos as well as for peace in the region and the world.
