Da Nang, Attapeu share experience in people's council operations

Standing Deputy Secretary of the Da Nang Party Committee Nguyen Dinh Vinh, and Standing Vice Chairman of the municipal People's Council Tran Phuoc Son, co-chaired a meeting on Friday with a delegation of officials from People's Council of Attapeu Province in Laos, led by its Chairwoman Minaphone Saysomphu.

During the reception for Lao guests, Deputy Secretary Nguyen Dinh Vinh informed them about the city’s socio-economic situation and its development orientation in the coming time.

He also added that the National Assembly of Viet Nam has just issued Resolution No. 136/2024/QH15 on the organisation of urban government and the piloting of a number of specific mechanisms and policies for the development of the city, with a focus on establishing a free trade zone; and promoting the development of science and technology, semiconductor, and artificial intelligence (AI).

This is considered as an important driving force for Da Nang to complete the goal of becoming a major socio-economic centre of the country and Southeast Asia by 2030, he said.

Mr. Vinh affirmed that Da Nang always concentrated on building a close cooperative relationship with the southern and central provinces of Laos, including Attapeu Province.

In particular, in 2024, the city has granted scholarships for 30 officials and students of Attapeu Province to study in Da Nang, sent 2 teachers to the province's Vietnamese Language Centre for teaching Vietnamese, and supported 10 officials of the provincial Department of Information, Culture and Tourism to study and exchange experiences in Da Nang.

Exchanging experience in the People's Council work, Standing Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People's Council Tran Phuoc Son briefed the Lao visitors on the organisational structure and operation of the People's Council of Da Nang.

In recent times, the supervision and law enforcement activities of the People's Council, the Standing Committee of the People's Council, the Committees of the municipal People's Council, and the delegates’ teams of municipal People's Council, have been constantly innovated and improved in quality.

In addition, receiving and supervising the settlement of voters' petitions, and handling citizens' letters, have been increasingly ensuring substance and effectiveness in practice.

Since the beginning of the term, the Standing Committee of the municipal People's Council has deployed 13 supervision topics, whilst the Committees of the municipal People's Council have organised more than 50 thematic supervision meetings.

The Standing Committee of the City People's Council has organised 5 programmes "People's Council with voters" before the regular sessions of the municipal People's Council. The programmes focused on discussing and questioning issues of public and voters’ concern and rolling out effective solutions.

Chairwoman of the Attapeu Provincial People's Council Minaphone Saysomphu thanked Da Nang for its cooperation and support for her province in various fields over the past years.

She also expressed her thankfulness to the municipal People's Council for its valuable sharing which she affirmed will help Attapeu further improve the effectiveness of the People's Council's operations.

Ms. Minaphone Saysomphu expressed her hope that in the coming time, the two localities will continue to increase exchanges and share experiences in the People's Council activities, especially in receiving and handling citizens' petitions and letters.
