Da Nang leader receives Spanish Ambassador

Da Nang People’s Committee Vice Chairman Tran Chi Cuong held a reception in the city on Thursday for Spanish Ambassador to Viet Nam Carmen Cano De Lasala, during which she highlighted potential cooperation opportunities between the city and Spanish localities.

Vice Chairman Cuong briefed his guest on the city's socio-economic situation and its development orientations to 2030 with a vision to 2045, in which Da Nang targeted to become the growth nucleus of the country’s Central Key Economic Zone.

Da Nang has been focusing on developing a number of key spheres such as semiconductor, artificial intelligence (AI), seaports, services, and tourism, he added.

Mr. Cuong asked for help from Spanish diplomat to appeal for more investors and businesses from her country to seek investment opportunities in Da Nang in fields of tourism, semiconductor and AI.

He requested Mrs. Carmen Cano De Lasala to promote the establishment of cooperative relations between Spanish localities and Da Nang, as well as organise cultural and people-to-people exchange activities to enhance understanding between Da Nang and Spanish people.

Da Nang has so far attracted seven Spanish-invested projects with a total investment capital of about US$309,000. In the first 9 months of 2024, the export turnover from Da Nang to Spain stood at an estimate of US$ 3.7 million. Meanwhile, the import turnover from Spain to Da Nang was estimated at US$ 3.2 million.

For her part, Spanish Ambassador Carmen Cano de Lasala thanked the city leaders for their warm welcome and introduced Spain's strengths such as tourism services, green energy, infrastructure, especially high-speed railway construction.

Spain is always willing to cooperate in investment, share experiences and support Viet Nam in general, and Da Nang in particular, in developing high-speed railways, energy transition and tourism development, she added.

Mrs. Carmen Cano de Lasala pledged to encourage Spanish enterprises involving in the hi-tech sector to explore cooperation opportunities with Da Nang in the coming time.
