Da Nang leaders receive representatives of countries attending "Meet ASEAN 2025"

Within the framework of the ongoing "Meet ASEAN 2025" in Da Nang, Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Le Trung Chinh hosted a reception on Wednesday morning for Malaysian Ambassador to Viet Nam Dato' Tan Yang Thai.

Chairman Chinh thanked the Malaysian diplomat for attending the "Meet ASEAN 2025", expressing that the event provided the good opportunity for Da Nang and ASEAN member countries to exchange and strengthen multilateral cooperation.

Informing about the socio-economic development situation, Mr. Chinh stressed that tourism was one of the city's spearhead economic sectors. He, therefore, asked a helping hand from the Malaysian Ambassador to promote the images and destinations of Da Nang in his country, as well as boost the connection between Da Nang and Malaysian travel companies, in a bid to lure more Malaysian visitors to Da Nang and vice versa.

The host also proposed connecting cooperation programmes in aspects of culture, education, and people-to-people exchange between Da Nang and localities and organisations of Malaysia. He voiced his hope that the Malaysian diplomat will do his utmost to appeal for more Malaysian investors to invest in the Da Nang High-Tech Park, and foster business cooperation in spheres that both sides have strengths.

For his part, Ambassador Dato' Tan Yang Thai thanked the city leader for inviting him to attend the "Meet ASEAN 2025". He pledged to bring Malaysian tourists to Da Nang to promote tourism development in the near future.

Da Nang is receiving a lot of attention and investment from foreign investors. Many Malaysian enterprises are showing their keen interest in investing in the central coastal city, he noted.

He added Malaysian enterprises saw great investment potential in Da Nang, especially in the Concentrated Information Technology Park, and High-Tech Park with microchip and semiconductor industries.

Also on the same morning, Vice Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Tran Chi Cuong warmly received Mr. Soe Ko Ko, Charge d'Affaires of Myanmar in Viet Nam, who attends the "Meeting ASEAN 2025" in the city.

On behalf of the government and people of Da Nang, Vice Chairman Cuong extended deep condolences to Myanmar over the heavy losses caused by the earthquake on March 28. He expressed his belief that with the determination of the Myanmar government and the solidarity of local people, along with support from the international community, Myanmar will soon overcome this difficulty.

Mr. Cuong informed his guest that 2025 will mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Viet Nam - Myanmar diplomatic ties. He affirmed that the "Meeting ASEAN 2025" event will contribute to strengthening cooperation between Viet Nam and Myanmar in general, and Da Nang and Myanmar localities in particular. Notably, the opening of Myanmar Airways International-operated direct flight connecting Yangon (Myanmar) with Da Nang on April 2 will further strengthen cooperation between Da Nang and localities and partners of Myanmar in the coming time, especially in tourism.

Da Nang is implementing a number of specific policies on financial management, state budget; high technology; investment management; planning management, urban, natural resources, environment; and priority industries and occupations to attract strategic investors to the city.

In particular, Da Nang is the first locality in Viet Nam to be allowed to pilot the development of a free trade zone and regional financial centre.

Vice Chairman Cuong took the opportunity to ask Mr. Soe Ko Ko to assisted Da Nang with promoting tourism in Myanmar, and connecting businesses of both sides to cooperate in tourism and trade.

In reply, Mr. Soe Ko Ko thanked Da Nang for its concern and sharing with the country and people after the recent earthquake. Currently, Myanmar is making efforts to overcome the consequences of natural disasters and soon stabilise people's lives.

On his first visit to Da Nang, Mr. Soe Ko Ko was impressed with the modern, green - clean - beautiful Da Nang. He expressed his hope that the recent opening of the Yangon (Myanmar) - Da Nang air route will open up more opportunities for the two sides to promote cooperation in various fields, especially in trade and service exchanges.
