Da Nang officials work in Savannakhet, Laos

As part of their ongoing working trip to south central provinces of Laos, the delegation of Da Nang’s officials, led by Permanent Deputy Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Nguyen Dinh Vinh, visited and worked with the Association of Vietnamese People at the Viet Nam-Laos Friendship Senior High School, and the Vietnamese Language Centre in Savannakhet Province on Tuesday.

After listening to a report on the performance of the Association and the Viet Nam-Laos Friendship Senior High School, Deputy Secretary Vinh highly appreciated the effective activities of the Association, and at the same time wished all overseas Vietnamese to have a happy Bunpimay 2025.

He informed the Association about some of the city’s outstanding socio-economic achievements over the past year. He also emphasised that Da Nang always supports the Associations of Vietnamese people in south central provinces of Laos, including Savannakhet Province.

Every year, the city grants two scholarships for the Association's children to study at the University of Da Nang. In 2022, the city donated VND 4.8 billion to the Association for building a multi-purpose house at the Viet Nam - Laos Friendship Senior High School.

Mr. Vinh voiced his hope that the Vietnamese people there will continue to promote the tradition of solidarity, help each other develop the economy, and always look towards their homeland.

On the occasion, the city gave a financial support of VND240 million to the Association of Vietnamese people in Savannakhet Province to pay salaries for 2 Vietnamese language teachers at the Viet Nam-Laos Friendship Senior High School, as well as donated the Association VND 50 million to celebrate the Bunpimay Festival 2025 happily and joyfully.

When visiting the Vietnamese Language Centre in Savannakhet Province, Deputy Secretary Vinh praised the Association for its good performance. He stated that the city leaders will discuss and consider the proposal for funding for purchasing photocopiers, projectors, and computers.

The Vietnamese Language Centre in Savannakhet Province was built in 2011 at a total cost of more than VND 3.8 billion funded by the Da Nang budget. The 2-storey centre features 5 spacious and modern classrooms and others functional rooms.

The Centre has trained nearly 2,500 Lao students in basic Vietnamese. In 2024 year alone, the Centre opened five classes of 222 students in total. Every year, the city sends 2 teachers with professional qualifications and experience to teach at the Centre. On the occasion, the city leaders presented gifts to the Centre and the two teachers.

Earlier, in the morning of the same day, the working delegation of Da Nang visited the Memorial Sites of President Kaysone Phomvihane and President Ho Chi Minh in Savannakhet Province.
